Welcome to my website. I am a professor of political science at the University of New Mexico and director of UNM's Master of Public Policy program. I received my Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis in 2004 and arrived at UNM the following year, where I teach and conduct research on American politics — Congress, representation, and money in politics in particular. Beyond campus, I provide policy analysis for state policymakers, deliver presentations on American politics to community organizations across New Mexico, and offer political analysis to local and national media. I am a two-time recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences' Teaching Excellence Award (2010, 2023) and received UNM's inaugural Digital Literacy Innovation Award in 2021.
Away from the university, I've spent more than thirty years coaching youth sports in Albuquerque. Today that means leading the Albuquerque High School boys tennis program — 2026 Metro champions and three-time state runners-up — and chairing the USTA Northern New Mexico Regional Advisory Council, where I work to grow junior tennis across the region.
