Our mission

The UNM Center for Service and Experiential Learning (CSEL) creates opportunities for students to connect with their community, gain valuable workplace experience, advance meaningful social initiatives, participate in government affairs, and apply their knowledge outside of a classroom. CSEL works with a variety of local partners to pair students from all university departments with internships and service experiences that will complement their degree. Students who participate in experiential learning may establish lasting connections with employers in their fields while earning a stipend and/or course credit.

In addition to enriching the educational experiences of UNM students, CSEL serves the public interest by facilitating community service and promoting the retention of a highly qualified workforce within New Mexico. Student services are made available to non-profit groups at no cost, while local businesses are offered low-cost student employment options. CSEL seeks to promote economic development, community engagement, and positive social change in Albuquerque while providing students with opportunities for advancement and personal growth.
